If you are a really smooth talker, you may want to give the phone company a ring and see if you can get the operator to help you. This rarely works, and if you don’t have a friend working for the phone company you are going to have a very difficult time with this method!

Look it up in a Crisscross Directory

This is basically the same as a phone directory, except they arrange the information by phone number or street address as apposed to by name. These directories are still available in print form, but are mostly accessed by computer now as they are primarily used by businesses for direct marketing purposes.

The downside to this method is that the cost of crisscross directory is rather expensive – You are looking to pay hundreds of dollars for a decent, complete directory. You might be able to find older such directories in your local library, but these tend to be outdated and contain local information only. If your strange phone number is not local, then this method is not going to be very cost effective for you!

Call and pretend to be someone else

This is one of the simplest ways of going about it. Simply pick up the phone and call the number.  Ask for someone with an unusual name (That’s not likely to be there) then when they say that person is not there, you need to sound very forceful, angry even, and ask who you are speaking to then. This method works, but should be avoided if you are not comfortable acting as you might get involved in a conversation with them, and need to sound natural.

The best way I have found to find the details of the person of which that number belongs to is online search. Once you have access to use their services you can easily find Names, addresses, criminal history, driving record and much more starting with just a number! The money and time you save make it well worth it.

It’s important to note though that there are such services available for free online. And if it’s not important to you to get accurate information fast then give one of these services a shot. These companies are normally maintained by pay for performance advertising which doesn’t earn them much.  Hence the reason these free companies rarely have the money to invest in data access to keep their information up-to-date or in more usable user interfaces.

In my opinion pay the small fee and get reliable information fast and easily.

So now where it used to be nearly impossible to get someone’s personal information, I have found four ways that this can be done. The one of which will work for everybody and is most effective and simplest to use is quality, reverse-phone-search online.
